Brand Story :
WOMEN FOUNDED, WOMEN RUN
Horses Atelier was founded in 2012 by best friends and novelists, Claudia Dey and Heidi Sopinka, with the philosophy of making pieces based on the values they hold in everyday life: utility, beauty, wildness, and endurance. The label is known for its feminized workwear and iconic silhouettes—trusted pieces that are artful and easy with an impeccable fit and feel.
MADE FOR YOU IN TORONTO
Every Horses piece is sewn in Toronto with care and intention. Our sewers are all paid fair wages. Horses Atelier believes in the local economy and in the rare skills and empowerment of those who make our garments. Heidi and Claudia’s grandmothers were master seamstresses. They inspired in the co-designers an old-world attention to detail, and the notion that a timeless piece is both the past and the future.
JUMPSUITS FOR THE REVOLUTION
Horses works with natural fabrics sourced from family-owned mills in Italy and Japan, and creates custom colours and original prints. The spare and storied aesthetic of Horses Atelier comes from the designers’ travels across islands, deserts, and Canada’s north. Heidi and Claudia believe that fashion is a form of autobiography, and their design studio is built from this private expression. It is multi-dimensional and autonomous, independent from the fast fashion calendar, selling directly to you through two channels only: our flagship at 198 Walnut Avenue and our on-line store.
Profiled in Vogue with their first design, Goop, Refinery29, Who What Wear and Glamour. Worn by Feist, Neko Case, Man Repeller, Jennifer Beals, Georgia May Jagger, Jerry Hall, Margaret Atwood, and featured on HBO’s cult classic, Girls, their muse is the woman who in dressing herself knows herself.
